Bangladesh’s famous actress Pori Moni, who was accused of rape and murder at a boat club on June 8, has been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the anti-crime unit of the police. Commander Khandakar Al Moeen, director of the legal and media wing of the RAB, confirmed this. Actress Pori was taken to the elite force’s headquarters at around 9 pm on August 4, after a four-hour raid at her house in Dhaka’s Banani.
Before arresting the actress, RAB claimed that they had recovered drugs and liquor bottles from the actress’ house during the raid. The actress was produced in a Dhaka court on Thursday morning. Shamsunnahar Smriti, popularly known as Pori Moni, had claimed that she was attacked on June 8 by Nasir Uddin Mahmood, former president of the boat club and director of Gulshan All Community Club, a businessman and politician. She had accused Mehmood of sexual harassment at the boat club. But the actress failed to register the case as the accused is a close friend of Bangladesh Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed.
