Never had the far-right president known such a level of mistrust during his tenure. More than half of Brazilians are in favor of opening impeachment proceedings against Jair Bolsonaro, according to a poll published on Saturday July 10.
This opinion poll by the Datafolha institute shows that 54% of those polled want the President of the Chamber of Deputies to act on one of the more than 120 impeachment requests filed so far. But this hypothesis is considered unlikely by specialists, the president of the lower house, Arthur Lira, being an ally of the head of state.
In Datafolha’s previous poll, carried out in May, 49% of those polled were in favor of Mr Bolsonaro’s impeachment. Data released on Saturday shows that the percentage is even higher among women (59%), young people (59%), the poor (60%), black people (65%) and gay or bisexual (77%) .
The head of state is strongly criticized for his management of the coronavirus crisis, which has killed more than 530,000 in Brazil, the second most bereaved country in the world after the United States. Pressure on the government has increased in recent weeks, with suspicions of corruption in the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines.
Thursday evening, the first part of the Datafolha poll showed that, for the first time, more than half of the people questioned disapproved of the management of President Bolsonaro (51%), against 45% in May.
The far-right leader is also once again given a large loser in the 2022 presidential election against the left-wing ex-president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
