After eliminating FC Barcelona (4-1.1-1) in the 8th, PSG will play a new shock in the Champions League. The draw for the quarter-finals designated Bayern Munich as the Parisians’ next opponent in their quest for the “Big Ears Cup”, for a rematch of the last final. The return leg will take place at the Parc des Princes. In the other quarters, Manchester City will face Borussia Dortmund, FC Porto will face Chelsea, and Real Madrid will face Liverpool. The first leg matches will be played on April 6-7, and the return leg a week later.
The finalists of the previous edition of the Champions League will meet again this year from the quarter-finals. PSG, not happy with the draw, inherited Bayern Munich as the next opponent in the European Cup. The Bavarians won 1-0 in the final in Lisbon on August 23.
This time, the Parisians will have the advantage of receiving in the return match. If they qualify, they will face the winner of the Manchester City-Borussia Dortmund showdown. Unlike the Bavarians, the Dortmund players will host in the return leg.
Bayern Munich is a bad memory for Mauricio Pochettino, the Parisian coach. The last time he faced the Germans, as Tottenham coach, his men were down 2-7 at home. A defeat which had led to his dismissal.
• Zidane opposed to Klopp
In the other part of the table, the big shock pits Real Madrid of Zinédine Zidane and Liverpool, of Jürgen Klopp. An extraordinary shock between two European monsters: the Madrilenians and their 13 victories in C1, and the Reds and their 6 crownings, the last of which in 2019.
For both teams, this competition is undoubtedly an opportunity to do more than save their not so brilliant season in the league (Liverpool are currently in sixth place in the Premier League, 25 points behind Manchester City, leaders, while that the Merengues are third six lengths behind Atlético de Madrid).
FC Porto, surprise strikers from Juventus, will face Chelsea.
