Climate: Greenpeace activists occupy the Louvre esplanade to denounce a partnership between TotalEnergies and the museum

About twenty Greenpeace France activists occupied the Louvre esplanade in Paris on the morning of Wednesday, October 6, reports France Bleu Paris. A banner 27 meters long, on which was inscribed “Climate: Total criminal, the Louvre accomplice”, was deployed on one of the facades of the palace. Greenpeace denounces the partnership between TotalEnergies and the museum which, according to the NGO, allows the oil company “to practice cultural diplomacy with the countries in which it wishes to establish itself and develop its activity”.

On its website, Greenpeace explains that it wants to ban cultural patronage, such as advertising, sports sponsorship and school partnerships. “to all fossil goods and services companies”, such as oil and gas companies, or even car manufacturers, and airlines and shipping companies. The NGO invites you to sign its European citizens’ initiative in this direction.

“By positioning itself as a facilitator of negotiations, Le Louvre is complicit in TotalEnergies’ activities’ climaticides’ and dangerous for biodiversity”, assures Greenpeace, taking as an example the financing by the Total foundation of the exhibition “The Louvre in Tehran”, “at a time when the multinational was in the midst of negotiations with Iran for a giant gas exploitation project”.
