Covid-19: geriatricians in favor of relaxing visitation rights


The latest recommendations published by the Ministry of Health and the Scientific Council in no way require the cessation of visits, but the bans persist.

As the Omicron variant no longer has the same fatal consequences as its predecessors, three French geriatrics associations are calling for no longer to prohibit visiting rights for residents of retirement homes, who are mostly vaccinated. “It does not seem to us to be relevant and even counterproductive for the health of residents to practice the isolation of nursing homes as soon as a resident or a carer declares himself positive for Covid-19 in an establishment”argues the Pr Nathalie Salles, president of the French Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SFGG), one of the three associations that signed a text calling for “not to hinder the freedom of residents”. The other two signatories are the National Council of Teachers in Geriatrics (CNEG), and the National Professional Council (CNP) of the specialty.
