The tests “of comfort” will no longer be reimbursed. In an interview with Echoes, Jean Castex confirmed on Sunday September 26 the end of the free screening tests for Covid-19 which are not motivated by a medical reason, from October 15. “It is no longer legitimate to pay for excessive comfort tests at the expense of taxpayers”, estimated the Prime Minister.
“But the tests will continue to be reimbursed for medical reasons, either without prescription for people already vaccinated, or on prescription for others. We also want to keep it free for minors.” , he added.
“The logic is to reimburse the tests linked to truly medical reasons, and to continue to encourage people to be vaccinated”, insisted the Prime Minister.
In his speech on July 12, Emmanuel Macron announced that the tests “of comfort” would become chargeable in the fall. A measure supposed to encourage vaccination, but also to reduce the bill for screening, which cost 2.2 billion euros in 2020 and for which 4.9 billion are planned this year.
