Covid-19: should we be worried about the increase in hospitalizations in France?

THE CHEKING PROCESS – If for the moment the figures remain low, admissions in critical care have jumped 70% in seven days.

THE QUESTION. After a surge in the number of cases since the beginning of July, and more particularly in recent days, it is now hospitalizations and admissions to critical care which are on the rise quite clearly in France: respectively + 48% and + 70 % In a week. Guillaume Rozier, the engineer who created the Covidtracker and Vitemadose tools, even projected that within three weeks, France will have 773 hospitalizations per day if current growth continues. This is obviously not good news. But should we be alarmed?

CHECKS. The answer is not evident. What is certain is that epidemiologists did not expect such a sharp and rapid rebound in hospitalizations. This is even well beyond the forecasts made by modelers two weeks ago.
