Current stage: Tour de France 2021 – News in real time and live info

The 2021 Tour de France runs from June 26 to July 18. Initially planned for Copenhagen (Denmark), the big start finally takes place in Brittany, with four stages which will lead the peloton from Brest to Fougères, via Landerneau, Mûr-de-Bretagne and Pontivy. A start to the event with two stages for puncheurs which could give new desire for a yellow jersey to the French world champion, Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quick Step).

The route of the Tour 2021 is less mountainous and more balanced than the two previous years, with two individual time trials (27 km between Changé and Laval during the 5th stage, and 31 km between Libourne and Saint-Emilion during the 20th stage) which convinced the French climbers not to focus on the general classification. Romain Bardet (Team DSM) had made the Giro 2021 his main objective, Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) is treating his back problems, while Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) prefers to aim for a stage victory.

The mountain still has a great role to play with three summit arrivals planned by the organizers: the first in Tignes, in the Alps, during the 9th stage, the other two in the Pyrenees, in Saint-Lary-Soulan (17th stage) and Luz Ardiden (18th stage). To go from one massif to another, the peloton will also have to climb Mont Ventoux twice during the 11th stage, drawn between Sorgues and Malaucène.

Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates), winner of the Tour de France 2020 during his first participation in the Grande Boucle, will try to keep his title. In the race for the yellow jersey, the Slovenian will have as opponents his compatriot Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) and the Ineos Grenadiers armada led by Geraint Thomas.
