In the hours following the announcement of his death, Emmanuel Macron had called him “national treasure”. Jean-Paul Belmondo will be the subject of a national tribute to the Invalides, announced the Elysee on Tuesday, September 7. It will be held Thursday at the Invalides, in Paris, in the courtyard of the building.
The Elysée has confirmed to France Télévisions and franceinfo that the public will be invited to this tribute “popular”. A thousand places will be open at the Invalides, without registration and on presentation of the health pass. Those who do not manage to obtain a seat will be able to follow the ceremony on giant screens installed on the lawns of the Esplanade des Invalides.
The ceremony, which is due to start at 4.30 pm, will be held in the presence of the family and relatives of Jean-Paul Belmondo, as well as personalities from culture and sport, an area dear to the “Magnifique”.
Emmanuel Macron will be present and deliver a speech. The Elysée recalls that this is the 12th national tribute that he will chair at Les Invalides since the start of his mandate. He had already honored the memory of Charles Aznavour, soldiers killed on mission or even victims of terrorism.
The funeral of Jean-Paul Belmondo will take place the next day, Friday September 10, at the Saint-Germain-des-Près church in Paris.
