The charred bodies of the two victims were found Wednesday in a house hit by flames, in the town of Grimaud, in the heart of the Massif des Maures. The prefect of Var, Evence Richard, only confirmed that one of the two victims was a man, insisting that there was no “no certainty” for the second body. He is “very very strongly plausible” that the latter is that of a 32-year-old Ile-de-France missing since Monday evening when she was staying in a lodging in Grimaud, according to the prosecutor of Draguignan, Patrice Camberou. An autopsy should be performed to confirm the identity of the victim.
In three days, since the start of the fire on Monday around 5:45 p.m., next to a motorway area on the A57, north of Toulon, 7,000 hectares of forest, vines and scrubland have been traversed by flames.
