A group of several people were caught in an avalanche on Tuesday while they were cross-country skiing under the ridges of Chaillol in Monêtier-les-Bains. One person was injured. Another skier, who was hiking lower, was seriously injured. Its vital prognosis is engaged.
New drama in the mountains. A group of six people who went cross-country skiing was caught in an avalanche on Tuesday, December 22, at a place called “Côte Plaine”, located between the Lautaret and Galibier passes, under the ridges of Chaillol, France 3 learned. The first of them was injured. But in its course, the avalanche caused another skier who was circulating lower down. The latter was seriously injured and taken to hospital in serious condition.
The accident happened around noon. It is the high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM) of Briançon which went there. The prosecutor of the republic of Gap entrusted the investigation to the gendarmes of Briançon. The avalanche occurred outside the ski areas.
This accident occurs while the Hautes-Alpes prefecture warns of the high risk of avalanches during this period, reported by Météo France.

Two avalanches already in mid-December
About ten days ago, on December 13, two other avalanches hit the town of Monêtier-les-Bains. The first occurred at the Col du Chardonnet, straddling the towns of Monêtier-les-Bains and Névache. She had surprised four soldiers of the 7th BCA of Varces, and wounded only one man of the group.
The second had started in the Fontenil valley, under the Pointe de l’Étendard, carrying two cross-country skiers in its course. Seriously injured, they had to be transported by helicopter to Briançon hospital.
