New adjustments to come for the extension of the health pass. The deputies voted in committee, Tuesday, July 20, for a postponement to the end of September of the implementation of the health pass for 12-17 year olds. The measure could be discussed again on Wednesday during the examination of the health bill in the hemicycle. The government had already exempted 12-17 year olds from the health pass until August 30.
The deputies supported in the law committee an amendment of the LREM Guillaume Gouffier Cha. “Vaccination has only been open for them since June 15”, he insisted to justify the postponement of one month. Some members of the majority, starting with the president of the Law Commission Yaël Braun-Pivet, wanted to go further by completely exempting minors from health passes. Olivier Véran opposed it, fearing a global questioning of the past.
The health pass is a “naughty concept”, than “I do not like” but there is “emergency” to avoid the closure of establishments, insisted the minister. “The question very quickly will be the sanitary pass or the complete closure”, he warned. “A closure is not easier to live with than the implementation of the health pass under strict conditions and as soon as possible. It is not a question of deadline or cosmetic, it is an emergency”.
