Experts consider children’s video calls to be quality time interactions with grandparents or other family members, but they caution that excessive use can lead to health problems.
Why limit children’s screen time?
Several reports on screen time for young children advise parents to limit the amount of time their children spend on their phones, laptops, tablets and video games. Sharing her views on this issue, Fertility and IVF Consultant Gynecologist Dr. Arokia Virgin Fernando advises, “Children under 2 years of age should be given only two or three times a week for 1 hour and that too for education. Screen time should be given for children in the age group of 2 to 5 years should use gadgets for 1 hour every day for the purpose of education. Children of 6 years and above should not use more than 2 hours of screen every day Shouldn’t be allowed.”
