For the second time in two days, Palestinians fired a rocket from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel, the IDF said on Friday (April 16th). The projectile, which landed in an uninhabited area, caused no casualties or damage, according to a military spokesperson. The shooting has not been claimed.

The Gaza Strip, an enclave of two million inhabitants, has been controlled by Islamists Hamas since 2007 and since then subjected to an Israeli blockade. Hamas and Israel fought three wars between 2008 and 2014.

Since then, rocket and incendiary balloon fire from Gaza and Israeli retaliatory strikes against Hamas or Islamic Jihad, the second armed Islamist group in the Palestinian enclave, have taken place sporadically. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the deployment of Israel’s “Iron Dome” anti-missile system which intercepted hundreds of rockets launched from Gaza or Syria.
