Knife attack in Nice: the Vigipirate plan raised to the “emergency attack” level throughout the country, the highest level
Jean Castex announced it on Thursday to the National Assembly, a few hours after the attack which left three dead in the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption basilica in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes).
The Vigipirate plan is brought to the “emergency attack” level, ie the highest, on the whole of the national territory after the Nice attack which killed three people. Prime Minister Jean Castex announced it to the National Assembly on Thursday, October 29.

The level can be set up in the immediate aftermath of an attack or if an identified and non-localized terrorist group comes into action, the government website explains. This level is set up for a limited period: the time of crisis management. In particular, it makes it possible to ensure the exceptional mobilization of resources, but also to disseminate information likely to protect citizens in a crisis situation.
The head of government denounced in Nice a “attack as cowardly as barbaric which mourns the whole country”, an attack “despicable”. “The government’s response will be firm, relentless and immediate”, he assured.
