Libyan financing of the 2007 campaign: Claude Guéant indicted for “criminal association”



This new charge, held Wednesday against the right arm of Nicolas Sarkozy after a new interrogation, was expected since the indictment under this same qualification of the former president in October.

Claude Guéant is in turn indicted for “criminal association” by the judges responsible for the investigation into possible Libyan financing of the presidential campaign of Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007, AFP learned from the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday December 3. This new charge, held Wednesday against the right arm of the former president after a new interrogation, was expected since the indictment under this same qualification of Nicolas Sarkozy, in October.

In this case of the alleged financing by the Libyan regime of Muammar Gaddafi, the former Minister of the Interior had already been indicted for “illegal financing of an electoral campaign”, “concealment of embezzlement of public funds” and “passive corruption” , in September 2018. Previously, he was also indicted in this case in 2015 for “forgery”, “use of forgery” and “laundering of tax fraud in an organized gang”.
