Played in full this Saturday evening, the 19th day of Ligue 1 was marked by the distance duel between Lyon, Paris and Lille for first place in the standings. Badly embarked, OL saved their title of autumn champion by snatching the draw (2-2). But Rudi Garcia’s players have only one point ahead of PSG, easy winner of Brest (3-0), and Lille, also victorious but against Nîmes on the smallest of margins (1-0 ).
• Lyon saves its evening
“The important thing is that we are autumn champions tonight“. Rudi garcia had announced the color at the microphone of Téléfoot before the meeting. The Lyon coach will be happy to have achieved his goal but he was scared against Stade Rennais this Saturday evening. Quickly stabbed by his own offspring, Clement Grenier (20 ‘), then knocked out by Benjamin Bourigeaud at the start of the second period (55 ‘), OL seemed to take the path of defeat with a confident approach.
The fate was even fierce when Jason denayer was denied a goal shortly after the hour mark. Memphis depay put his people back on the right track, reducing the score with a subtle sequence of chest control volleying (79 ‘). And the Dutchman turned into a decisive passer three minutes later to bring back a smile to Denayer, author of the equalizer in the 83rd minute. The draw was undoubtedly not the outcome dreamed by the Gones, but the point snatched against the Bretons allows them to keep the lead of Ligue 1 and especially to validate the symbolic title of autumn champion. But beware, the competition is lurking …
• Paris and Lille victorious and threatening
Quickly in the lead against Brest thanks to the 9th goal of Moise kean in Ligue 1 2020/21, opportunistic after a header on the post Marquinhos (16 ‘), PSG had left to dislodge Lyon from 1st place in the French championship. The proteges of Mauricio Pochettino were not particularly brilliant but they dominated and silenced the fantasies of Brest, winning 3-0 at the end, thanks to a goal and an assist (for Pablo Sarabia) of the revenant Mauro icardi (81 ‘, 83’). They end the first half of the season in 2nd place, a small point behind OL.
But they are not the only ones with 39 points in the general classification because Lille very discreetly won at Nîmes (1-0) thanks to a new goal from the veteran Burak Yilmaz (29 ‘). Without sparks but with a stealthy return of Renato Sanches on the meadow, the Mastiffs keep up a good pace. They are part of a leading car that is starting to fall behind the rest of the championship, with 6 points ahead of 4th Monaco (and while waiting for the 2 late matches for OM).
• Marseille silent, not Boulaye Dia
In the other meetings of the evening, OM did not shine against relegation Dijon, completing an affordable meeting with a disappointing score of 0-0. Nothing worrying for the 6th in the championship who has two games left to play but the competition is tightening. Monaco, for example, stuck 3 goals in Angers (3-0) thanks to Maripan, Volland and Jovetic. Same price for Reims, victorious 3-1 of a relapsing Saint-Etienne. Author of a double, Boulaye Dia took the opportunity to reach the bar of 12 goals scored in Ligue 1 this season, regaining the lead in the scorers standings (tied with Kylian Mbappé).
