Meat Eaters’ Alert: Consumption of processed meat three days a week, that is, the risk of nine diseases- Research
Meat is a favorite food for non-vegetarian people, but consuming it more may lead to lanes. A recent research has revealed that frequent consumption of meat increases the chances of nine types of non-cancerous diseases by leaps and bounds. Researchers in the UK have brought the direct connection between these diseases and meat to the public. Researcher has found in his research that the risk of heart disease, diabetes, pneumonia and some other serious diseases increases manifold in a person who consumes meat regularly.
WHO also warned
Earlier research had found that excessive intake of red meat or processed meat can cause bowel cancer, but for the first time in this research, diseases like heart disease, diabetes, pneumonia have been directly linked to meat. Researchers at Oxford University have found in their research that if processed meat or poultry meat is eaten three days a week, it increases the risk of 9 different diseases manifold. This research also reinforces the World Health Organization’s claim in which the WHO warned that high intake of meats, especially red and processed meats, is harmful to health.
Study on 5 lakh people
Researchers have studied about 5 lakh people of Middle Age in the UK for 8 years to prove their point. Their health records were scrutinized from various hospitals and analyzed on their diet and medical history. The analysis found that people who consumed meat three days or more a week had an adverse effect on their health compared to those who did not consume meat. Dr. Karen Pepier, an expert at the University’s Nuffield Department of Population Health, said that a person who consumes 70 grams of unprocessed red meat or processed meat daily, increases the risk of diabetes by 30 percent, while the risk of heart disease increases by 15 percent. Similarly, consuming 30 grams of poultry meat daily, increases the risk of diabetes by 14 percent and the risk of gastroesophageal reflexes by 17 percent.
Why is there more danger
According to Dr. Karen, unprocessed red meat or processed meat contain more saturated fatty acids, which increases the amount of low-density lipoprotein in the body. This increases bad cholesterol. The result is an increased risk of many serious heart-related diseases.
What diseases can be caused by consuming red meat daily
Heart disease, pneumonia, diverticular disease, colon polyp, diabetes, gastro-esophageal reflex disease, gastric, duodenitis, and gall bladder disease.
