Medvedev and clay, a complicated story
Daniil Medvedev doesn’t like clay, to say the least. If this episode is a great bad luck for the Russian, he was keen to start this season well on ocher during this first big meeting, where he was despite everything, the reigning semi-finalist. But this place in the last four in 2019 (to which is added his final in Barcelona the same year) is a bit the tree that hides the forest. Since his arrival on the circuit in 2017, he has recorded 13 defeats in the first round in 16 tournaments played on this surface.
