Nicolas Hulot accused of rape and sexual assault: an investigation opened by the Paris prosecutor’s office



A preliminary investigation for rape and sexual assault was opened Friday, November 26, the day after the broadcast of a report from France 2 implicating Nicolas Hulot, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau announced in a press release. Investigations “Will endeavor to determine whether the facts denounced may characterize a criminal offense and whether, in view of their seniority, the limitation period for public action has been granted”, she explained.

At least six women, including a minor at the time of the facts, accuse the former host and former minister of the environment of rape or sexual assault committed between 1989 and 2001, which he disputes.

Search for possible non-prescribed attacks

In this 62-minute report broadcast on Thursday evening on the “Special Envoy” program, three women recount the sexual assaults of which they claim to have been victims. The televised investigation also includes the testimony of environmental activist Claire Nouvian and returns to the rape complaint filed in 2008 by Pascale Mitterrand, granddaughter of former President François Mitterrand, dismissed because the facts were prescribed.

Two other women, the former host Maureen Dor and a former employee of TF1, have also transmitted to “Special Envoy” written testimonies on facts of which they accuse Nicolas Hulot. The day before the report was broadcast, the latter had formally denied these accusations and announced that he was leaving ” definitively “ public life, to protect loved ones and Foundation from the fallout from “Lynching”.

The Paris prosecutor’s office has made a habit of systematically opening investigations into accusations of sexual violence against minors, even if the facts seem time-barred, in order to verify the facts and to look for possible other non-prescribed assaults.
