A bomb exploded in the parking lot of a luxury hotel where the Chinese ambassador to southwest Pakistan was staying, killing at least four people and injuring dozens, officials said on Wednesday (April 21st).
The explosion occurred in Serena, in the city of Quetta, the capital of the province of Balochistan, where the army has been fighting insurgents for ten years, less than a hundred kilometers from the Afghan border.
“At least four people were killed and 12 others injured”Pakistani Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said, denouncing “an act of terrorism”. “A Chinese delegation of about four people headed by the ambassador was staying at this hotel.”, he added. “The ambassador was outside for a meeting when the explosion occurred”, said the minister again.
Azhar Ikram, a senior police official in Quetta, said the explosives were located, “according to the first elements of the investigation”, “in one of the vehicles” parked in the parking lot. This explosion was not immediately claimed.
