“The pressure exerted on Kyiv has resulted in significant population movements. Europeans will be at the rendezvous of solidarity”, continues Jean-Yves Le Drian, the day after the EU summit in Brussels. As for the sanctions against Moscow, “I am not sure that President Putin has taken the measure of the extent of the sanctions which were decided on yesterday. It is a question of asphyxiating the functioning of Russia. The package of measures announced is spectacular, we do not never experienced that”assures the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

“Vladimir Putin uses words to scare people, but he knows the balance of power very well. When he says he has major weapons, he is simply answered “we too”says Jean-Yves Le Drian. “President Putin is reinventing history, continues the minister. He wants to recreate an empire. In recent years, we have seen a triple authoritarian drift by Putin, at the same time internal, external and in terms of interference.

“We are doing everything to stop Vladimir Putin. He cannot continue to be alone in this world, to be the permanent aggressor.”

Regarding the Ukrainian President, “President Zelensky’s security is a central element of what is happening, and we are in a position to be able to help him if necessary, but it is important that he takes his place”believes Jean-Yves Le Drian, who adds that “The Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs told us of his requests: a request for humanitarian aid, a request for financial support, a request for support in defense equipment, and he wanted sanctions”.
