Smart employees accept the Ineos project

Smart’s social and economic committee (CSE) was to make Thursday, November 12 a “Reasoned positive opinion” as for the takeover by the British group Ineos of the Smart Electric production site in Hambach (Moselle), sold by Daimler due to the Covid crisis. Ineos plans to produce 20,000 copies of the Grenadier there each year, a future 4 x 4 thermal vehicle. Its weight, very probably greater than 2.1 tonnes, will however make it suffer a significant penalty. And its gasoline or diesel engine looks like a wrong launch at the time of electrification of the park. But the Ineos project is the only one with sufficient scope for the defense of employment to have been formulated. The unions hope that the industrial strategy will, in the long term, allow the production of vehicles other than this polluting model. And to guarantee activity until 2026-2027, Daimler will entrust it with the production of dashboards for the electric Mercedes GLA.
