“The long Covid must not become a chronic disease”

MAINTENANCE – Doctor Barizien, at the origin of the “Réhab-Covid” program at the Foch hospital in Suresnes, warns of the societal and financial risks of this prolonged form of Covid-19.

Doctor Nicolas Barizien is a sports doctor and rehabilitator, head of the physical medicine and rehabilitation service at the Foch hospital in Suresnes, where he created the “Réhab-Covid” program. Since June 2020, he has been caring for patients with long Covid. He is also part of the panel of experts of the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) and participates in the drafting of professional recommendations for the long Covid care path for the Île de France regional health agency. He is co-author, with doctor Laurent Uzan and journalist Marie-Pierre Samitier, of Covid long, how to get out of it (editions Marabout), which will appear on September 1 in bookstores.

LE FIGARO.- You have been following the long Covid closely since June 2020. What is the typical profile of a person suffering from a prolonged form of Covid-19?

Doctor Nicolas BARIZIEN.- Those who develop long Covid are usually people who have contracted a mild form of the virus, i.e. no hospitalization
