The strike is renewed at “L’Equipe”, the newspaper will not appear on Monday

Employees of the newspaper and magazine The team have been on strike since Friday, January 8 against a layoff plan providing for the elimination of around 40 jobs. Sunday January 10, they decided to renew the movement for 24 hours, AFP learned from the unions. The sports daily will not appear on Monday, for the third consecutive day, the management said.

Denouncing the “contempt” management, the intersyndicale (SNJ – SNJ-CGT – UFICT-CGT – SGLCE-CGT) is organizing a general assembly by videoconference on Monday at 2 p.m. The movement is renewable every 24 hours.

For its part, the newspaper’s management indicates that it “continues the consultation schedule set with union representatives in this third month of information”.

The unions demand the “withdrawal” the job protection plan (PSE) “or a completely different project, which eliminates a lot less jobs”, and better starting conditions.

Management plans to cut 36 posts out of around 330, or 10% of the workforce. The team, detailed Stéphane Antoine, elected SNJ-CGT. Six positions in the Sport & Style supplement, also edited by the group The team, could also be deleted.

Faced with financial difficulties due to the cessation of sports competitions in spring 2020 with the health crisis, the group The team (which also edits France Football and Bike Mag) has been crossed by strong tensions since June.
