Actress Sushmita Sen did not make the jump from beauty pageant winner to heroine easily. The actress went on to make a successful career in films, winning both the praise of the critics and the love of the audience. But after working in films for more than a decade, he took a gap of almost ten years. After that Sushmita decided to return to acting with a web series instead of films.
Talking about it during a recent interaction, the actress said that it was because Bollywood was not giving her the kind of roles she wanted. Sushmita’s last film before taking a break from acting was the 2010 comedy Dulha Mil Gaya, which also featured Fardeen Khan alongside Shah Rukh Khan. She returned to acting in 2020 with Disney+ Hotstar’s web series ‘Aarya’. Meanwhile, Sushmita said that she gave priority to the upbringing of her two daughters – Renee and Alisa.
In a conversation with film critic Sucharita Tyagi on the Facebook page of the ‘Critics’ Choice Short Film and Series Awards’, Sushmita said, “I think the 10-year gap put priorities in order. It told me what to do and What not to do. Cinema was not giving me what I wanted. A lot of it was my age and perception of my screen age and I hadn’t worked for ten years.”
Sushmita said that her own incompetence and unwillingness to network with people meant she missed out on opportunities as well. “I don’t know what the mindset was or maybe I just wasn’t putting myself out there. I’ve never been good at that. I’m not good at networking. It didn’t work for me,” she said. Sushmita is currently working in ‘Arya’. The show has had two seasons and a third one is on the way.
