Russian Ambassador to the European Union summoned
The Russian ambassador to the European Union was summoned on Monday, May 3, by the European institutions, after Moscow’s decision, three days earlier, to sanction eight European nationals, including the President of the Parliament, David Sassoli, and the Vice-President of the Commission, Vera Jourova, banned from entering Russian territory. Sanctions, in retaliation to those put in place by the EU in March, judged “Unacceptable” by Brussels.
End of the twelfth Ebola epidemic
The Democratic Republic of the Congo officially declared on Monday (May 3) the end of the twelfth epidemic of Ebola haemorrhagic fever, three months after its “Resurgence”, February 7, in North Kivu. Twelve cases have been recorded, said the Congolese health ministry, with six deaths recorded and hundreds of people vaccinated since this reappearance. North Kivu was hit hard between 2018 and 2020.
Vast Internet network of child pornography dismantled
The German judicial police announced, Monday, May 3, the dismantling in mid-April of a child pornography network on the dark Net of more than 400,000 members. Existing since 2019, it is presented as one “Of the greatest in the world”. The months-long investigation, under the coordination of Europol, was carried out by a special unit of the German police, with the collaboration of the Dutch, Swedish, Australian, American and Canadian police. It led to the arrest of three Germans aged 40, 49 and 58. A fourth, 64 years old and living in Paraguay, is the subject of an international arrest warrant.
